Bertha Peralta
Founder and counselor, LPC-MH
She sees adults after domestic violence, in person in Sioux Falls and by video across South Dakota.
Bertha started Prairie Dawn so that people leaving an abusive relationship could find a counselor who works beside their advocate rather than around them. In the first session she explains how she works, the limits of confidentiality and the risks and benefits of therapy, and then she listens.
She sees
- Adults who have left or are leaving an abusive partner
- EMDR and body-based therapy
- Working beside advocates, with your consent

How Bertha works
Steady before deep
Grounding and routines come first, for as long as you need them.
You set the pace
She asks before each practice, and any session can be slower than planned.
Beside your advocate
Shelter, protective orders and safety plans are advocates' work. She refers you to them and coordinates with your consent.
